Grassroots Groups

Commentary
Members of women's grassroots organisations and other non-government organisations populated this town of women. Associations, formed around every conceivable issue, sent their representatives with materials that outlined a world in which the dreams and visions of women were fully realised.

A leaflet from the National Congress of Neighbourhood Women (USA) which outlined their vision for community development values included: women's leadership, families, diversity /social identity, environmental concerns, economic self-determination, government accountability, and the importance of neighbourhoods. The newsletter from GROOTS South Asia carried an editorial entitled End of Exclusions: Towards Gender Justice which outlined how the work of women agricultural labourers is not only not paid at a rate equal to men but also makes no allowance for sick leave, maternity benefits or childcare.
