Commentary
Women from the Philippine Educational Theatre Association were drumming up an audience for a performance. Their striking puppet appeared at first to be a prop in a street demonstration with a grim message of women's rights.

Whatever the cause, spaces of protest and performance would seem essential in the lives of women. I have often seen posters extolling women to speak out against violence against women, labor rights or war. The street remains a platform from which women speak.
