Commentary
Those of us who were mobile enough to ascend the ramps were able to meet out of the rain to share information from our communities. We developed strategied to try and influence the International agreement that theWorkd Conference on Women was preparing. That Inter Governmental Conference eventually produced the Beijing Declaration and the Platform for Action that remain the UN's most comprehensive document on the rights of women since CEDAW, the Convention on the Elimination of Descrimination Against Women. In this small group we discussed a very simple paragraph that was ultimately kept in the documents. It seemed a very small achievement to have a sentence included in the documents mentioning the builts form of our homes and communities when so much needs to be done. Of course the first step is to find space within which to organise.
