Women Building

Commentary
Women's efforts to house themselves have been hampered by their lack of training in construction. Organisers of this workshop pointed out that while in recent years women have been able to gain some training and employment in professional areas of the construction industry such as architecture and engineering, in the working class sector of the industry women still faced barriers that largely exclude them. In an effort to overcome these barriers tradeswomen's associations have been formed along with other organisations designed to support and encourage women in their efforts to gain access to employment in the construction industry.
