Commentary
On the main street of Womenstown this small display was posted on a fence, accompanying it was a leaflet about the “Menstrual Preparation and Management Kit,” which proclaimed “Feelings are important.” This message was important, so too the space to display it. Posters were everywhere in Womenstown, banners welcomed us, flags marked the trail from the makeshift bus depot to the Forum.

My daughter’s best friend remembers me as the woman who talked to their grade 6 class of boys and girls, I mentioned menstruation. I showed them this image and encouraged them not to be silent about their bodies, not to be ashamed of periods, I told them about this display in the main street. This simple display, and it’s powerful message, have been seen around the globe.
